WARNING
Information on installation, adjustment and replacement of products that cannot be found in the user manual will be provided to you at the place of purchase or from the distributor. The dealer's manual for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics can be found on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For safety, please read this "User's Manual" carefully before use, follow it for proper use, and keep it for future reference.
The following instructions must always be followed to prevent personal injury and physical damage to the equipment and surroundings. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage that may occur if the product is used incorrectly.
DANGER - Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION - Failure to follow the instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to the equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- Because each bicycle may handle slightly differently depending on the model, learn proper braking technique (including brake lever pressure and bicycle handling characteristics) and the operation of your bicycle.
- Improper use of the bicycle's braking system can result in loss of control, which could lead to serious injury from a fall or collision.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. This may cause the product to malfunction, you may fall unexpectedly and be seriously injured.
- Downhill cycling and freeriding are inherently dangerous activities. It is strongly recommended that riders wear head and body protection and perform a thorough safety check of their bicycles before riding. Remember that you ride at your own risk and should therefore consider your experience and abilities very carefully. There is a risk that you may be involved in an accident resulting in serious injury or even death.
- Riders must become accustomed to the higher performance of this brake before riding the bicycle.
- The brake system is designed for downhill cycling and freeriding, and its braking power is much higher than that of other brakes. If you ride the bicycle without being sufficiently familiar with the braking characteristics, you may be involved in an accident that may result in serious injury or even death. In addition, the brake settings do not allow riding on city streets.
- Sudden braking can cause the bicycle to fall forward, which can result in serious injury or even death.
- 220 mm, 203 mm and 180 mm rotors provide more braking force than 160 mm rotors. If you ride the bicycle without thoroughly familiarizing yourself with the braking characteristics, braking can result in falling off the bicycle, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.
- Keep your fingers away from the rotating rotor. The rotor is sharp enough to cause serious injury to your fingers if they get caught.
- Do not touch the calipers or rotor while riding or immediately after dismounting the bicycle. The calipers and rotor become hot during braking, so you may get burned if you touch them.
- Do not allow oil or grease to get on the rotor or pads. Riding the bicycle with oil or grease on the rotor or pads may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Check the thickness of the pads and do not use them if they are 0.5 mm or less thick. This may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Do not use the rotor if it is cracked or deformed. The rotor may break and lead to serious injury due to a fall.
- Do not use the rotor if it is 1.5 mm or less thick. Also, do not use it if the aluminum surface is visible. The rotor may break and lead to serious injury due to a fall.
- Do not apply the brakes continuously. This may cause a sudden increase in brake lever engagement, causing the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Check the supported model information for each oil type and use the correct oil for the product. Failure to do so may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.

- Do not mix SHIMANO hydraulic mineral oil with SHIMANO low-viscosity oil. This may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.
- Do not apply the brakes if there is a fluid leak. This may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Do not apply the front brake too hard. If you do, the front wheel may lock and the bicycle may fall forward, causing serious injury.
- Since the required braking distance will be longer in wet weather, reduce your speed. Apply the brakes in time and gently. Otherwise, serious injury may result from a fall or impact.
- Wet road surfaces can cause the tires to lose traction. To prevent this, reduce your speed and apply the brakes in time and gently. If the tires lose traction, you may fall and be seriously injured.
Precautions regarding SHIMANO low viscosity oil
- If SHIMANO low viscosity oil gets into your eyes, rinse them with clean water and seek medical attention immediately. Contact with eyes may cause irritation.
- If SHIMANO low viscosity oil comes into contact with your skin, wash it thoroughly with soapy water. Contact with skin may cause rashes and discomfort.
- When using SHIMANO low viscosity oil, protect your nose and mouth with a protective respirator and ensure that the area is well ventilated. Inhaling the vapor or fumes emitted from SHIMANO low viscosity oil may cause nausea.
- If you inhale the vapor or fumes emitted from SHIMANO low viscosity oil, immediately move to a place with fresh air. Cover yourself with a blanket. Stay warm in a stable position and seek professional medical attention.
Warm-up time
- Disc brakes have a certain warm-up time, and braking power gradually increases as the warm-up time increases. Accidents or falls may occur due to loss of control of the bicycle, which may result in serious injury. The same situation occurs when replacing pads or rotors.
