Information on installation, adjustment and replacement of products that is not found in the user manual will be provided to you at the place of purchase or distributor. The dealer's manual for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics can be found on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For your safety, please read this "User's Manual" carefully before use, follow it for proper use, and save it for future reference.
The following instructions must always be followed to prevent personal injury and physical damage to the equipment and surroundings. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage that may occur if the product is used incorrectly.
DANGER - Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to the equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. This may cause the product to malfunction, you may fall unexpectedly, and you may be seriously injured.
- Before attempting to ride, make sure you understand the operation of the locking/release mechanism of the pedals and cleats (on the shoes). The pedals are designed to release only when necessary. They are not designed to release automatically when you fall off the bicycle.
- Use only SPD shoes with this product. Other types of shoes may not release from the pedals or may release unexpectedly.
- Use only SHIMANO cleats and securely tighten the mounting bolts to the shoes. Failure to securely tighten the bolts may result in a fall in which the cleats will not release.
- Before riding, adjust the holding force of the cleats on the pedals to your needs. If the holding force of the cleats on the pedals is weak, the cleats may accidentally release, causing you to lose balance and fall off the bicycle. If the holding force of the cleat on the pedals is high, the cleats may not be easy to release.
- When riding at low speed or when there is a possibility that you will have to stop (e.g. when making a full turn, at an intersection, when riding uphill or when turning a sharp corner), release the cleats from the pedals beforehand so that you can quickly put your feet on the ground if necessary.
- When riding in adverse conditions, use a lower cleat holding force to attach the pedal cleats.
- To ensure proper attachment and release, keep the cleats and bindings free of dirt and debris.
- Remember to check the cleats for wear regularly. Replace the cleats when they are worn and adjust the cleat holding force before riding and after replacing the pedal cleats. If you do not heed the above warnings, the shoes may not come off the pedals when you intend them to, or they may come off unexpectedly or accidentally, resulting in serious injury.
